CLOWN 47 SERIES - THE WORK

Clown 47

Oil on Canvas - 16"x20"

The Clown 47 series began with the creation of a small color representation of a clown - a despicable jester-like figure who sells lies for a living. He is small in stature, yet colorful and loud; a human peacock who spreads its feathers as a theatrical and successful marketing device. He knows people will buy what he's selling even if that means going against their own best interest.

The seven plates that follow represent those trapped in the Clown's path of destruction and like most of his victims, have had the color sucked out of their lives. These black and white plates have been split into two sets of images:

Set #1 (The 3 Mothers) includes three "virginal" women processing deep visceral pain, their faces already deformed by injustice, great loss and impotence.

Set #2 (Witnesses) consists of four men who, in the midst of processing information in a vastly different way, become wrapped in a cloak of bewilderment, shock and anger. Pain follows not far behind.
